Ringing terns at Nabben 2001
From early July until mid-September a ringing project with special emphasis on Sandwich Terns will be carried out at Nabben, just like last year. One aim of the project is to study moult in the Sandwich Tern and the use of moult stages for ageing. Another aim is to find out from where the resting Sandwich Terns at Falsterbo originate.The work last year was very successful, and will hopefully continue like that during this season.

During 2001 all Sandwich Terns will also be colour-ringed:
Right tarsus: YELLOW ring above the metal ring.
Left tarsus: RED ring.
Please report observations of colour-ringed Sandwich Terns, either directly to Peter Olsson or to Falsterbo Bird Observatory.

Captures 2001:

Ringed 29 June - 6 July:
Ringed Plover 1, Redshank 1, Greenshank 1, Sandwich Tern 18, Starling 1.
Total: 22 birds / 5 species.

Two Sandwich Terns with foreign rings were controlled, both of them Danish.

Ringed 7 - 13 July:
No trapping efforts.

Ringed 14 - 20 July:
Knot 1, Curlew Sandpiper 1, Dunlin 3, Bar-tailed Godwit 1, Redshank 1, Sandwich Tern 4, Common Tern 3, Little Tern 3.
Total: 17 birds / 8 species.

A Bar-tailed Godwit with a Dutch ring was controlled.

Ringed 21 - 27 July:
Knot 1, Curlew Sandpiper 2, Dunlin 43, Redshank 1, Greenshank 1, Common Sandpiper 2, Black-headed Gull 4, Sandwich Tern 19, Common Tern 14, Arctic Tern 2, Little Tern 1.
Total: 90 birds / 11 species.

Eight Sandwich Terns with foreign rings were controlled: 3 Danish, 3 Swedish and 2 German. Additionally a Dunlin with a German ring was controlled..

Ringed 28 July - 3 August:
Greenshank1, Black-headed Gull 1, Sandwich Tern 2, Common Tern 2.
Total: 6 birds / 4 species.

No controls

Ringed 4 - 10 August:
Dunlin 4, Sandwich Tern 2.
Total: 6 birds / 2 species.

No controls

Ringed 11 - 17 August:
Teal 6, Oystercatcher 1, Ringed Plover 3, Grey Plover 1, Little Stint 1, Dunlin 17, Ruff 1, Bar-tailed Godwit 1,
Redshank 1, Greenshank 3, Wood Sandpiper 2, Common Sandpiper 1, Sandwich Tern 7, Common Tern 5.
Total: 50 birds / 14 species.

One Dunlin with a German ring was controlled.

Ringed 18 - 24 August:
Shelduck 1, Teal 1, Ringed Plover 1, Knot 18, Dunlin 106, Snipe 1, Spotted Redshank 1, Greenshank 3,
Wood Sandpiper 2, Sandwich Tern 11, Common Tern 6, White-winged Black Tern 1.
Total: 152 birds / 12 species.

Two Sandwich Terns with foreign rings were controlled: One Danish and one Swedish. Other controls were a Shelduck with a Swedish ring and a Knot with a French ring.

Ringed 25 - 31 August:
Teal 1, Ringed Plover 7, Knot 14, Little Stint 1, Curlew Sandpiper 3, Dunlin 76, Redshank 2, Wood Sandpiper 4, Common Sandpiper 1, Sandwich Tern 13, Wheatear 1.
Total: 123 birds / 11 species.

Two Sandwich Terns with foreign rings were controlled: One Danish and one Swedish.

Ringed 1 - 7 September:
Shelduck 1, Oystercatcher 2, Knot 9, Curlew Sandpiper 9, Dunlin 7, Ruff 1, Redshank 1, Sandwich Tern 2.
Total: 32 birds / 8 species.

One Knot with a Swedish ring was controlled.

Ringed 8 - 14 September:
Shelduck 1, Teal 2, Little Ringed Plover 1, Ringed Plover 3, Knot 1, Little Stint 4, Dunlin 26, Ruff 7, Redshank 6, Greenshank 1, Turnstone 1, Black-headed Gull 1, Sandwich Tern 9, Black Tern 2.
Total: 65 birds / 14 species.

Three Sandwich Terns with foreign rings were controlled: One Estonian, one Swedish and one German. Also a Little Stint wearing a Swedish ring.

Ringed 15 - 21 September:
Teal 2, Sanderling 2, Little Stint 7, Dunlin 56, Ruff 1, Common Tern 1.
Total: 69 birds / 6 species.
